The Canadian Animal Blood Bank helps save canine lives by providing high-quality blood products made possible through the generosity of donor dogs. We support the advancement of veterinary medicine by promoting awareness and educating the community about transfusion care.

Canine Blood Products are Needed For

  • Cancer Therapy Support

  • Rat Poison Toxicity

  • Anemia, Parvovirus infections, and Von Willebrand's disease

  • Surgery and times of trauma

  • Immune mediated diseases

Each unit of blood collected can make a difference in the life of 3 canine companions and their families.

Donor Perks

  • Eligible to receive one complimentary blood product for every unit of donated blood, should the need ever arise

  • Free microchip identification after 2nd donation

  • Bandana & blood donor tag

  • Milestone dog tags every 5 donations

  • Complimentary testing for blood borne diseases and heartworm. Any abnormal test results will be forwarded to your veterinarian

Donor Criteria

  • Between 1-8 years of age

  • Weigh over 55 lbs (25Kg)

  • Up to date on vaccinations or proof of titres

  • Even temperament

  • In good health as deemed by your primary care veterinarian

Blood Collection Procedure

  • Owner arrives and a questionnaire is completed while Donor is weighed.

  • A small blood sample is taken to obtain blood levels.

  • The donation. This only takes about eight to ten minutes.

  • Afterwards it is time for belly rubs and tasty treats.

After Home Care

  • Provide plenty of fresh water. Heroes also need a few treats.

  • Avoid vigorous exercise and use of a choke/prong collar for 48hrs post-donation.

  • Your dog may be more excitable after the donation process.
